About

Hi, I’m Sam! I'm interested in the application of Artificial Intelligence to healthcare.

  • I’m currently a resident physician (in Internal Medicine) at Mayo Clinic.

  • Before that, I received my MD from Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where I'm also working on Natural Language Processing research applied to neurology records.

  • Previously, I completed my B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science at Arizona State University, where I spent 5 years conducting clinical Natural Language Processing research in the Cognition and Intelligence Lab.

  • I’ve been researching in the Clinical Natural Language Processing (NLP) space for the past 7 years. The overarching theme of my work is semantic parsing of clinical data (like Electronic Medical Records) to extract information that can be used to make actionable decisions for healthcare delivery and contribute to downstream research work.
